Obesity is REALLY bad for health

been in Klinik Kesihatan Seremban for 1month now...

Cant seem to stress how important an optimum weight is good for health...not to mention the beauty to it..(underweight gives a perception of weakness, no good also).

impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes, coronary heart disease, osteoarthritis, hypertension, subfertility, gallstones, sleep apnoea, gout...cancer...bla bla bla.. So much health problems. Almost all the diabetic, hypertesive and osteoarthritis patients I see are beyond their optimum weight...

But what I saw today was really, REALLY disheartening.

A 58 year old woman came into the clinic on a wheel chair...of course my thought was empathy, at first.. when she said she could walk. The doctor was also curious. Furthur observations, history taking and examination revealed there was no functional loss which could actually cause her inability to stand or walk. I then asked her why she couldn't walk.

Pain in the knees... osteoarthritis (OA)!

One major cause of OA is obesity...immediately i looked for her weight, height and BMI. A gross 119kg, BMI 49.6!!! ** *** (please note Normal BMI for Asians is <23)

weight reduction is the crucial factor here...but how is she gonna exercise when the pain is severe that cause this morbidity?

PREVENTION...is better than treatment...
