Kuala Pilah

After much hesitation, I joined Minoo and Uma for a surgical attachment in Kuala Pilah.

Waking up each morning as early as 6am, we had to leave Minoo's house by 6.55am to Kuala Pilah hospital where her mom is working. On arrival at the hospital (which really reminds me of KKB except that it is much more modern. And ya, most of the places are air-cond), after an hour ride through kampung roads and up Bukit Putus which is really winding, we headed straight to the dewan pembedahan. We had to change all our clothes (besides the basics) to those provided in the OT. Well, all's oversized and did not give us enuff protection from the cold air in the OT!

Saw many interesting cases including a fibroadenoma, overian tumor, hysterectomy (per vagina and per abdomen), tubal ligation (one after a LCS and another via laparoscopy) etc.

After about 2-3cases, it would be lunch time and we'll take a bus back to Seremban. Would then send the afternoon sleeping as I was drained out for unknown reasons...maybe its th ehols mood.

My experience?
Never liked surgery and will never like it. Find it very intrusive...cutting up a person, stucking your hand thru to palpate the organs, digging/cutting it out, putting gauze in the 'hole' to dry up the oozing blood, stiiching it up and of course the smell of flesh burning. Was really an experience smelling the fat burn during the biospy of the fibroadenoma.

It really scares me that one day I'll have to do a delivery myself. The MOs are allowed to handle simple procedures themselves and have a team to back them up in others. Watched some young ones and imagine myself in their shoes....shivers....Some are really good, but it comes with practice.

Appreciated the team work. From nurses (there's an assistant and a runner plus the many who prep the room and the patient), anaesthesist, MOs and of course the main surgeon. Each had its own task.

Doctors are not boring people, neither is surgery. One particular doctor, an O&G specialist has this aura around him that really makes us comfortable. He is really cool and fun. And he loves to have pics taken (of the procedures) of which I became the photographer during the laparoscopy.
Eyes can be deceiful. Well, all of us have to be covered in the OT, except for the eyes. being gals, we tried to judged how other people looked behind the caps and masks. Haha...some can be really surprisingly nasty! I couldn't even recognise some outside the OT....blur blur

One last certain thing...my anatomy is helpless!!! arrggghhhh...have to polish up in Sem6.

Well, its been a good experience as it is my first in an OT. Thank God I never had any surgeries, except for my bothersome corn.
More memorable would be my stay with friends.

Staying with Minoo and her mom for 4nights.
Being the 1st person to sleep on Uma's new bed.
Being the 1st persons from our batch to step into Chiat Yin's new house...and she prepared lunch for us!
Thanks for another great week..adding on to the excitement (and busyness) of my hols!
