My Saturday in Phuket
0600hrs
To Kao Rang with parents to join the Phuketens in mountain prayer . Today was represented by 5 churches, with 5 pastors & almost 25 people including teens.
The main prayer agenda was Southern Region of Thailand as we were led by Pastor Chanwit who was in that region from Mon to Fri. There was continued prayer for unity of Christians as we see our step brothers advance. 10years ago, we don't see them cover their heads. Today, latest stats say there is 30% of them here & they are beginning to make themselves more dinstinct.
0930hrs
Auy came to pick mom & I for visitations.
Auy, 40+, homemaker, previously worked with my dad. Today, serving God esp. in visitations both to locals & foreigners as she also speaks & writes English. She speaks boldly about God to anyone- neighbours, shopkeepers eto.. Now learning Mandarin to reach the older generation of Phuket who also speaks Mandarin & hokkien. After encouraging her, she decided to be a translator in the Church & also teach the elderly.
So of we went to visit a family. Their house was the old type of double storey within a land of coconut trees, bushes, cocks & dogs. The oldest, Mdm. Tai, 92 spoke Mandarin & Hokkien. Mr. Tai, 70+ attends the same church as Auy. We came to visit his elder sis, Mdm. Tai & her son, Preecha 40+.
Mdm. Tai was frail, with narrow eyes peering thru thick lens. She slept in a simple room downstairs, her bed a thin mattress on a metal frame with mosquito net. The wall's old paint & cement floor plus a shelf as wardrobe showed how simple their life was. On the wooden part wall hung a calender, a cross & Chinese words indicating her belief.
We came to know that Mdm & Mr. Tai has been Christians and still remember their baptism. But Preecha, though understanding Christianity & attends church occasionaly, haven't quite believed.
My mom shared with him more, encouraged Mdm & Mr Tai in their faith and finally prayed for the household. Really touching to see Mdm. Tai as mom thought her how to pray for a safe return to her eternal home.
1200hrs
Headed to Rawai beach where we had Thai food, sitted on the sand, facing the southern seas. beautiful... Rawai, mainly occupied by sea gypsies. look like the orang asli and amministic, fishermen by proffession. oh, the older speak some Malay. a Scottish pastor, Peter has been working to share the gospel there. There's a church now besides an Assembly church in town. He's been in Phuket for 40yrs and speaks Thai.
1330hrs
Headed to an American's house. Jack, 70+, retiring in Phuket alone, not sure bout his family. He lives in a simple brickhouse, without proper walls and with zinc roof. Auy knows him via Lance, her American husband. She has been sharing to him bout God and managed to bring him to church last Christmas. Honestly one tough nut to crack... quitehard to initiate topics bout God as he deliberately changes the topic as soon as we got to it. but managed to tell him that God's gift is ready to be received.
1415hrs
Moved on to a French couple's house. Also retirees, known to Auy as theywere previously neighbours. They now stay in a single storey 2room bungalow with a nice garden in a kampung area.. really country style. Lucette, the wife has recently started to attend church with Auy and this Sunday would be her husband, John's first. Praise God!
John who smokes and drinks has gave up going to church when he was young cos he was convinced priests are hypocrites. He was raised Catholic and was familiar with the bible until another person was chosen by the priest as John was poorer. Really felt sad, but hopeful that he'll come to know God.
Lucette... didn't quite ask bout her as she was more quiet and gracious compared to her frenchy-accent husband. but she shared about a vision she received and ask bout the bible. Mom shared some scriptures and we prayed for her faith, John's salvation and her son, Mitchel's salvation and a godly gal for him. Auy fixed another day for bible study.
1600hrs
Closed for the day though many more people could hav been 'visited'. need more workers, prayers and time.
