Klinik Kesihatan posting

Just came back from a 2 night stay at the nurses' hostel in the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital. Suprisingly, I kinda liked the town. Its small, green, peaceful and enchanting.

Sunday 5pm: Arrived KKB. about 60ppl in total. We were brief by Col. Samsuddin, who was to take care of our accommodation in KKB. 20 girls were allowed to stay in the hostel while the rest stayed in some terrace houses rented by IMU, 6 to a house.

Sunday 7pm: Took a 10 min walk to town for Mamak dinner. Came back to the hostel, chat, play Uno and....more chat... What else are girls better at?

Monday 8am: Reported to the Out-Patient-Department (OPD) of the KKB hospital. Spent the whole morning with a doctor in his room, observing his 'work'. It was such a pity to see how some people abuse the government's services, causing a heavier burden on an already overworked staff. Some came in with so vague symptoms, while others complained of pain over minor stuff.
Of course, it was also an eye openner to see some cases which I had never even heard off and to see patients with symptoms we read in our textbooks.

Monday 2pm: After an hour lunch break, went 'adventuring' at the pathology department, in simplier words- the lab. Was kinda impressed with the faccilities that such a hospital in an 'ulu' place had. Felt guilty for 'disturbing' the lab assistants. They must be thinking we were some 'pest', buzzing around with so much questions.

Monday 7pm: Went out on foot to town again for dinner. Came back, did some review on the cases and continued......chatting! Its a wonder how we girls can talk...even details about relationships.

Tuesday 8am: Reported to a Klinik Kesihatan Serendah, about 20mins away from KKB hospital by bus. Was impressed with the large klinik. It had an OPD, MCH (maternal and child) and a dentist, all under one roof. Spent some time in the Pharmacy, looking at the various drugs which all sounded to familiar but can't seem to remember what we had read about them. Continued the rest of the morning with a very kind Medical Officer. One thing that was memorable was to see how she counselled a mother and daughter who had some family strains.

Tuesday 2pm: Spent the rest of the evening in the treatment room. This was definitly the highlight of the day. A big thanks to the Medical Assistant who showed and explained many things to us.
