Rubbish in rubbish out

2nd week into ortho and i wonder how painful ortho is..

ortho cases in the wards are mainly fractures of various body parts...almost 99.9% due to road traffic accidents. and really pity them as they lie there in pain, unable to move.. some soft tissue injuries i have seen are really horrifying! i, under the IMU education have never seen a real muscle, tendon or any sort of that before, got shocked to see the real stuff...
besides these group of people.. there are the diabetics.. lying on the beds with toes/legs amputated... those not operated yet lie with their infected, foul-smelling, 'dead, dangerous and damn nuisance' body part.
wah..really needed few days to adjust.

1st week as i followed the ward rounds, i noted how the ortho surgeosns and doctors examined the patients. imagine sticking the finger into the patients' wound to do an 'exploration'... squeezing with all your might on the surgical wound to illicit any discharge... peeling of the dressing that stuck to the wound...etc etc... until some patients beg for the doctors not to inspect the wound..

come 2nd week... we begin our teaching session with our coordinator..
with all respect, he is really a brilliant person and good surgeon and lawyer...
after 3 out of 6 sessions in the ward with him, my group has become weary... not only am i feeling inadequate in knowledge.. i begin to feel stupid and lazy
"Rubbish, rubbish"
"cant you all give me some intelligent answers?"
"...what is worse, it is staring right in front of you and you cannot see it?!"
"what has phase 1 thought you?... Bluff each other"
"you think you are high and mighty with the white coat and funny gadgets?"
"where did you all learn your English?"

speechless...
but sigh 3 more to go... and hopefully we will begin to pull ourselves together. I am now motivated to learn more and pray harder for wisdom from my Creator, who made the human body and know exactly how all things function.

3more weeks...
